Individual Handicap Knockout Tournament

The Braintree District Badminton League Finals nights took place over three nights with the Semi-Finals, along with the finals of the Plate and Restricted Tournaments on Wednesday 14th and Wednesday 21st April 2010 and the main Finals themselves on Friday 23rd April, all at the Earls Colne Recreational Club. Everyone who attended were treated to some excellent badminton throughout the evenings. Trophies were presented to the Winners on Finals night by Ross Ranson, who for some strange reason, didn't find himself playing on Finals Night!!! |

Tonight, our trophies are being presented by Ross Ranson, a legend in his own life time and a man, some of you may struggle to recognise with his normal clothes on! Ross has been a prominent part of Finals night in recent years, reaching Singles, Mens and Mixed Finals on several occasions. This year, however, an 'over zealous' handicap committee finally caught up with him (about time too!), but we couldn't resist still letting him get his hands on the trophies and then kissing all the lady winners!! |

Golden Shuttle Award |

The Golden Shuttle Award is an award devised and presented by Braintree League Match Secretary Dick Williams at the Finals Night presentations. Dick presents it to any member of the league who in his opinion, has contributed the most to the league over the past year.
"This most prestigious award goes to someone who three seasons ago, as a junior, was a member of a team of youngsters who were entered in the Mens 4's Division 2 league. They came bottom that season, wining only one match. The following season they were top, loosing only one match. In last Wednesday's Semi-Finals he teamed up with his partner, Lloyd Edwards winning the Mens Doubles semi-final. After a short break, he was back on court to take on one of Haverhill's top players in the Mens Singles and won that as well!!
The award for 2009/2010 goes to Tyler Peacock".
Finally congratulations to Tyler again tonight for winning the Mens Doubles Final with his partner Lloyd Edwards beating the No 1 seeds from Bishops Stortford who were Champions two seasons ago and Runners Up last season. Not since Andrew Wiffen in the 1980's, Paul Farme in the 1990's and David Everstaff in 2001, has somebody of his age reached the Final. |

Ross Ranson For turning up, even when he wasn't playing and for making it to the Finals Night on time - there's nothing like trying to find Earls Colne down the A12 towards Ipswich as happened a couple of seasons ago!! Well done Ross!!
Peter Webb Our thanks go to Peter Webb, Manager of Earls Colne Recreation Club, for the use of the club for the Finals nights. We take over the whole of the badminton hall for 3 nights during April to hold the tournament finals.
