Braintree District Badminton League Constitution

 Title

 

The Association will be called the "Braintree & District Badminton League" (the League)

 

The League shall consist of Badminton Clubs whose headquarters are situated within reasonable travelling distance of Braintree.

 

 Objectives

 

  • To promote community participation in the amateur game of badminton in the Braintree area by arranging, regulating and managing Tournaments, League Competitions and any other appropriate events.
  • To encourage the formation of new clubs within the District and to help such clubs wherever possible.

 

 Officers

The officers of the League shall comprise of;

  • President
  • Vice Presidents
  • Chairperson
  • Vice Chairperson
  • Hon, Secretary
  • Hon, League Secretary
  • Hon, Tournament Secretary
  • Hon, Treasurer
  • IT/Website Administrator
  • And if necessary, an Adjudicator, who shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting (AGM)

 

 Election of Officers

 

  • Any member of an affiliated club over the age of 18 shall be eligible for election as an officer of the League and shall remain in office until the conclusion of the AGM following their election and shall be eligible for re-election.

 

 Management of the League

 

  • The affairs of the League shall be managed by the Committee, consisting of the above officers.
  • One nominated representative from each club participating in the League may be called upon, the representative will assumed to be the Secretary unless the League is otherwise informed.
  • Four voting members to form a Quorum.
  • Voting - 1 per Club
  • The Chairperson shall have the casting vote.

 

 Powers of the Committee

 

  • To carry out the League Policy.
  • To consider all applications for membership of the League.
  • Membership of the League shall be open to any Club interested in badminton on application regardless of sex, age, disability, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, religion or other beliefs.
  • However, limitation of membership according to available facilities is allowable on a non-discriminatory basis.
  • The League may have different classes of membership and subscription on a non-discriminatory and fair basis.
  • The League will keep subscriptions at levels that will not pose a significant obstacle to people participating.
  • The League Committee may refuse membership, or remove it, only for good cause such as conduct or character likely to bring the League or sport into disrepute.
  • Appeal against refusal or removal may be made to the members.
  • To appoint and authorise such sub committees as may be considered necessary.
  • To act as a finance committee.

 

 Meetings

 

  • The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is to be held before the end of June each year.
  • An Extraordinary General Meeting (EGM) of the League may be convened by the Committee or by two thirds majority of affiliated clubs at the time.
  • The Committee may meet during the year if required.

 

 Voting Power

 

  • Members of affiliated Clubs present at the AGM or EGM are entitled to vote with a maximum of 2 votes per Club.
  • The Chairperson will have the casting vote.

 

 Financial Year

 

  • The financial year will end on the 30th April each year.
  • All surplus income or profits are re-invested in the League.
  • No surpluses or assets will be distributed to members or third parties.

 

 Insurance

 

  • The League will be insured each year.

 

 Alteration and Amendments

 

  • No alteration or amendment shall be made to this Constitution except by the affirmative vote of two thirds of those present and voting at an AGM or EGM.

 

 Resolutions

 

  • Any member of an affiliated Club may bring forward a resolution to the AGM, provided that due notice thereof be given in writing to the Hon, Secretary at least 14 days prior to the meeting,

 

 Dissolution

 

  • A resolution to dissolve the League shall only be proposed at a General Meeting and shall be carried by a majority of at least three quarters of the members present.
  • The dissolution shall take effect from the date of the resolution and the members of the Committee shall be responsible for the winding up.
  • After settling all liabilities of the League, the Committee shall dispose of the net assets to one or more of the following,
  • Another League or Clubs with similar sports purposes, the local badminton leagues for use within the community or the sport's governing body.
