The Braintree District Badminton League Finals took place on Friday 24th April 2009 at the Earls Colne Recreational Club. Everyone who attended were treated to some excellent badminton throughout the evening. Trophies were presented by Maureen Eves.
Ladies Singles

Winners of the Mens Doubles Final was Ross Ranson and Wilfried Jannsen {-6} (LBC/Earls Colne). Runners Up were Tim Woods and Mark Whitworth {-2} (Bishops Stortford).
This match was a complete reversal of last years final!

Golden Shuttle Award
The Golden Shuttle Award is an award devised and presented by Braintree League Match Secretary Dick Williams at the end of year AGM. Dick presents it to any member of the league who in his opinion, has contributed the most to the league over the past year.
The 2009 Golden Shuttle Award was awarded to Anna Burle. Anna is the quiet, unassuming, modest, helpful, loyal, efficient, enthusiastic - we could go on here - secretary/match secretary for Halstead. Anna has been the secretary/match secretary for as long as Dick can remember. Halstead have been a League clud since the 60's and they do win a title every so often. With dwindling members they still manage to enter 2 leagues and fulfill all of their fixtures, this season winning Mixed 4's 2. Congratulations.

The tournament committee was delighted that the finals night trophies were presented by Maureen Eves from Wolmers Badminton Club. Maureen is a familiar face to all of us, for more years than most of us like to admit, and I am sure many of us remember her unbeatable partnership with John Drakeford, almost 10 years in the top pairs, and now with her new partner M Bacon.
Peter Webb
Our thanks go to Peter Webb, Manager of Earls Colne Recreation Club, for the use of the club for the Finals nights. We take over the whole of the badminton hall for 3 nights during April to hold the tournament finals.
Therese and Melvin Hutton
Many thanks go to Therese and Melvin for their hard work in running the tournaments and presenting the Finals nights.
